Why your hotel choice matters more this winter
Delhi NCR is not one city but a cluster of them: Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, joined by some of India's busiest roads. Pick the wrong neighbourhood and a short hop to a meeting can turn into a long, slow cab ride.
This season adds three more reasons to choose carefully. The region now has three passenger airports — Indira Gandhi International (DEL), Hindon (HDO) and the new Noida International Airport (DXN) at Jewar, which began commercial flights on 15 June 2026. The India International Trade Fair is scheduled at Bharat Mandapam from 13 to 27 November 2026. And from December, fog can delay or cancel flights in the early hours.
This guide matches each part of Delhi NCR to the kind of trip it suits, so corporate travellers and premium leisure guests can book a hotel that works with their plans, not against them.
Three airports, one region
Before you choose a hotel, check which airport your flight actually uses. They are far apart, and a hotel that is ideal for one can be a long drive from another.
| Airport | Where it is | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi IGI (DEL) | South-west Delhi, about 16 km from the city centre | Three terminals (T1, T2, T3). T1 has its own Magenta Line metro station; T2 and T3 are served by the Airport Express Line. |
| Hindon (HDO) | Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, next to the Hindan Air Force Station | A small civil terminal with a limited list of domestic routes. Handy for East Delhi, Ghaziabad and parts of Noida. |
| Noida International (DXN) | Jewar, Gautam Buddha Nagar district, reached via the Yamuna Expressway | Opened for commercial flights on 15 June 2026, with IndiGo and Akasa Air routes. Access is mainly by road for now, so allow generous transfer time. |
Quick rule: Match your hotel to your airport and your meetings, in that order. If the two pull in opposite directions, stay near the meetings and plan one early, unhurried airport run.
Which neighbourhood suits your trip?
Here is how the main hotel districts compare for business and premium travellers:
| Area | Best for | Nearest airport | Getting around | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aerocity | Short trips, early flights, airport meetings, transit stays | DEL (next door) | Delhi Aerocity station on the Airport Express Line | Feels like a business bubble; a long ride to Noida or East Delhi |
| Connaught Place and central Delhi | Government and ministry meetings, Bharat Mandapam events, dining and culture | DEL | Shivaji Stadium and New Delhi stations on the Airport Express Line, plus the wider metro | Heavy traffic in the evening peak; premium hotels book up during big events |
| Dwarka | Conferences and expos at Yashobhoomi | DEL | Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 station sits at the end of the Airport Express Line | Fewer upscale dining options after hours |
| Gurugram | Corporate offices, MNC headquarters, long project stays | DEL | Mostly by car; metro links to Delhi | Expressway traffic at rush hour can be severe |
| Noida and Greater Noida | Tech parks, media houses, expo venues, trips via Jewar | DXN or HDO | Mostly by car; metro links to Delhi | Crossing to south-west Delhi or IGI takes time |
Aerocity: the smart choice for tight schedules
Aerocity is a commercial district immediately south-east of IGI, home to a cluster of international hotels, restaurants and meeting spaces. If you are flying in for a single day of meetings, or you have a 6 am departure, this is the least stressful base in NCR.
Central Delhi: for ministries, embassies and Bharat Mandapam
If your work involves government offices, embassies or an event at Bharat Mandapam in Pragati Maidan, stay central. Connaught Place, the Lutyens' area and the hotels around them put you close to these venues. For IITF (13–27 November), book early — exhibitors and visitors fill nearby rooms quickly. The Airport Express Line links New Delhi and Shivaji Stadium stations to the airport in roughly 15–20 minutes, which makes central Delhi easier to reach from IGI than many people expect.
Dwarka: built for big conferences
Yashobhoomi in Dwarka Sector 25 is the India International Convention and Expo Centre, one of the capital's biggest venues for expos and conventions. Its metro station is directly beneath the venue at the end of the Airport Express Line, so a Dwarka or Aerocity hotel can work well. Check your event's venue twice — Bharat Mandapam and Yashobhoomi are on opposite sides of Delhi.
Gurugram and Noida: stay where the offices are
For multi-day visits to a Gurugram or Noida office, stay in that city. The daily commute from central Delhi is rarely worth the saving. Noida and Greater Noida also make more sense now that Jewar (DXN) is open: if your flight uses DXN, a hotel on the Noida side cuts the transfer considerably compared with staying in south Delhi.
Plan around winter fog
December and January bring dense fog to north India, and early-morning flights are the most affected. In late December 2025, Delhi Airport operated under CAT III low-visibility conditions, with visibility around 125 metres, and warned that this could cause delays and cancellations. IGI has CAT III-B instrument landing systems on several runways, but airlines and other airports on your route can still be disrupted.
- Avoid the first wave of flights for important meetings. A mid-morning arrival is usually more reliable than a 6 am one in fog season.
- Fly in the evening before a critical meeting and stay close to the venue.
- Choose free-cancellation rooms so you can adjust if a flight moves.
- Allow extra time to reach the airport and check in, as the Airports Authority of India advises during fog disruptions.
Corporate tip: For teams flying in from several cities, an Aerocity hotel is often the best meeting point. Everyone lands nearby, delays matter less, and nobody loses half a day in traffic.
Your Delhi NCR hotel checklist
- Confirm your airport (DEL, HDO or DXN) and, for IGI, your terminal before choosing a hotel.
- Map the hotel against your main meeting or event venue, not just the city name.
- Check event calendars — IITF runs 13–27 November 2026 at Bharat Mandapam.
- Pick a refundable rate for December and January trips in case of fog delays.
- Ask about airport transfers, early check-in and late checkout if your flight times are awkward.
- Look for a proper work desk, reliable Wi-Fi and, in winter, rooms with air purifiers.
- Set up DigiYatra and complete web check-in early to save time at the airport.
